IAN FRYERS

It is only occasionally that an artist bursts onto the scene with an original and distinctive style which brings him immediate commercial success. Such an artist is Ian Fryers.

Ian was born in Manchester in 1946 and studied interior design at Manchester College of Art and Design, graduating in 1969. He spent the following 25 years working in architecture and interior design whilst at the same time gradually developing his paintings. Eventually, the growing demand for his work persuaded him to begin painting full time which he did in the mid-1990s. Success was immediate.

Ian has exhibited at numerous exhibitions throughout the north of England. In 1993, 95, 96 and 97, he exhibited at the Mall Galleries in London as a Laing landscape competition finalist and has appeared in the prestigious Laing calendar on two occasions.

His style is typified by the bold handling of strong, glowing colour and shapes, executed with wit and precision. A basis of strong draftsmanship permeates his work and his choice of subject matter, commonly with a marine theme, has wide appeal.
