PETER SHUTT
Peter Shutt was born in 1926 and was educated at
Bradford
Belle
Vue
Grammar School and
Leeds
University. He began painting in 1964, following a serious illness, ultimately turning professional in 1981. In 1982 he became one of the ten founder members of the Yorkshire Watercolour Society and became Chairman of the Society for the period 1996-1997.
Working in both watercolour and pastels, he seeks inspiration for his paintings through the love of moor and mountain landscape, endeavouring to capture the elusive movement of light and mood, so typical of our upland areas.
In recent years, Peter has exhibited work in
London and
New York and has continued to hold exhibitions in galleries throughout
Yorkshire. His work has been reproduced in greetings cards and in the British Gas 1994 calendar. Yorkshire Water Plc have also reproduced two of his paintings as prints for distribution as part of a publicity campaign. His paintings are in many collections nationally, including those of the former Archbishop of York, Lord Habgood and Sir Thomas Ingleby.
He also demonstrates and lectures to art clubs throughout the region and, in addition each year, runs a number of popular residential painting holiday courses.
