Val was born in Scarborough in 1972 and has always loved drawing. She studied art and design at Scarborough technical college before specialising in fashion design, gaining her degree at Newcastle.
She worked at York college teaching fashion illustration and visual studies before settling back in her home town to raise her family.
She began painting again as a hobby and has completed many commissions for customers.
Val joined Whitby Galleries in the summer of 2018.
Her favourite medium is watercolour - she loves the way the colours bleed into one another in her paintings.
She is inspired by the sea and buildings of Whitby
